I have always had a sense of place. These series of Plein Aire drawings and paintings were completed while traveling to California's Russian River Valley, Grand Staircase/ Escalante, Kanab, Utah, House Rock Valley, Arizona and many other remote places.
Barbara Ryan Gartin grew up in the woods of Northwest New Jersey, earned a BFA in Studio Art at Kutztown University and moved on to earn her MFA at Old Dominion University. She has taught and served as gallery director in universities, colleges, museums and community venues all over the country. Working in primarily in printmaking and book arts, her most recent research, The Story of Our Disappearing, documenting the 27 National Monuments currently being reviewed and reduced and Invisible Ancestors an exploration of the gaps between time, story and perception of familial truth and legends.
In 2010, she began working under the studio name Two Tables Press producing limited edition hand pulled prints and artist books. After living in nine states in each of the continental time zones, she now resides in Flagstaff, Arizona with her amazing husband John and aptly named cat, Salty. Together they own Adventures in Flagstaff and Tie the Knot Flagstaff providing outdoor creative experiences including Astrophotography and art workshops, as well wedding officiant services.
